ジャック・ルーシェの『プレイ・バッハ』やテレビのCFをきっかけにジャズ好きになった人も大勢いる。そこでウチでは子供に宇多田ヒカルやSMAPのジャズ・インスト版を聴かせることにした。要するにきっかけはなんでもいいのだ。で、このヨーロピアン・ジャズ・トリオだが、ジャズってなんか難しそう、関心はあるけどちょっと近寄りがたい、と思っているような人におすすめのグループだ。オランダを本拠にするこのトリオはヨーロッパ的なセンスでシンプルかつエレガントな演奏を行なう。だから非常に口当たりがいい。そしてこの新作ではマライア・キャリーやダイアナ・ロスのヒット曲、人気映画のテーマ曲などをやっているから親しみやすい。4曲に参加しているマリアーノのサックスも泣かせる。たしかにブルース・フィーリングとかインプロヴィゼーションの妙といった話になると物足りないのは仕方がないが、1枚のアルバムに多くを求めてはいけない。 (市川正二) --- 2000年01月号
