5.0 out of 5 stars バトル曲が秀逸, 2002/2/11
オーケストラの楽器が用いられることの多い、スクウェアのゲーム音楽のなかでは、
エレキギターやロックオルガン等を使ったハードロック系のサウンドが（当時としては）斬新。
何を隠そう、作曲者の笹井隆司氏は、プログレバンド「ノヴェラ」のベーシストだった経歴を持つ。ドラムセットの使い方が格段に上手なのも、うなづける話である。
激しい曲調がふんだんに盛り込まれており、バトル曲好きの方には超おすすめ。
笹井隆司氏らしさを最も体感できるサントラといえよう。
残念なのは、全58曲を1枚におさめてしまっているため、

1ループしか聴けない（ひどいものは1ループもせずにフェードアウトしてしまう）ことである。

このサントラを聴くたびに「もう少し収録時間が長ければなぁ」と思ってしまいます。

でもでも、バトル曲関係はちゃんと1ループしているのは流石（とはいえ残念ながらラストボス曲は4種類もあるようなので無ループですが…）。
各主人公のテーマ曲に関してはもはや言わずもがな最高の出来栄えなのですが、やはりこちらも残念ながら各主人公の回想シーンなどでかかる曲はありません。とはいえゲーム中ではほんの一瞬しか聴けないデューン編のフィールド曲がしっかりばっちり入っているのは嬉しいです。

細かいところでは町や村の曲がちゃんと昼夜版両方あることも嬉しかったです。バトル勝利曲を最後の最後まで聴けるのもやはりサントラならではですね。
