本作品は、ギターサウンドのプロデュースを綺麗な音にして控え目にして創作されているので誤解されることが多い作品であるが、実はその気になれば十分アグレッシヴなヘヴィメタルに発展出来る作品である。華美なテクニックが少ないので、その点でさびしく思うファンもいるだろうとは想像出来るが、注意して聴いてみると隠されたテクニックはかなり多い。見せ掛けだけのウルトラヘヴィネスを披露する一部のアーティストの作品群よりも本当は遥かに重厚のように私には思える。
本作品のコンセプトは、派手な装飾に頼らずにどこまでメロディを追求出来るかという点にあると私は考える。その点についても私は高く評価したい。もともとRAINBOWは初期以来一貫してメロディを重視していたが、それを満天下に示した作品が本作品であろうと私は考えている。

この作品はマニアの間では裏の名盤とされているが、さてどうでしょう?
ロニー期とジョー期では音楽性は違うし、目的も違えば意図も違うのだから。
あまり過大評価せずに、各々が判断すればいいと思います。

さて話を脱線して、リッチーとカヴァーディル

「全米制覇の野望」この共通のテーマに向け両者は80年代凌を削ることとなる。
方やヴォーカリストを手を替え品を替え、一方はギタリストが月替わり定食。

結局ラスバラード作品を取り入れメロディ重視ポップ性で勝負したリッチーよりも、サイクスという宝を武器にフラッシーなメタルブームに便乗し、ゴージャスに整形したカヴァの完全勝利に終わった。

時は2000年、リッチーは戦いに疲れ果て、再度古城へと惹き込もる。
カヴァは勝利の代償と引き換えに急速な劣化をするもナツメロ集金ツアーに余念がない。

今想う、あの時目的が同じなら二人でアルバム作って仕掛ければ良かったのにと…

このアルバムはリッチーがアメリカにかました最後のスカしっ屁なのだろう。
