いろいろな意味でファンを騒然とさせたアルバムではないでしょうか。
旧来のPURPLE路線を踏襲する様式美と、アメリカンHRなどに見られるポップセンスが入り乱れています。
L.バラッドの"アイ・サレンダー"で幕を開け、ヴェートベンの第九で幕を閉じるというのも印象的です。
確かに大当たりはしましたし、R.ブラックモアのギターもまだ健在ではありましたが、旧来派(?)の私には少し不満ののこる作品でもあります。
それにしても、"治療不可"のタイトルが示す真意はどこにあるのか、未だに不明です (^^;

このアルバムは歌詞もよく考えれれていて、今聞けば「よくこの時期に現代の状況を予測し曲が作れたなぁ」
と感心してしまいます。

日本語訳がないので私の拙いリスニングでは聞き取れない箇所も多いですが、
「キャント・ハプン・ヒア」では未来の環境問題を「フリーダム・ファイター」では監視カメラなどで管理されている
現代の惨状に対してＮＯと歌っています。

ギターとしては「ミッドタウン・トンネル・ヴィジョン」でのエジプトっぽい間奏が気に入っています。

このアルバムのタイトルになった「治療不可」という曲はベートーベンの第９です。
クラッシックファンにとっては薄っぺらな曲ですが、当時まともにクラッシックを聞いたことも無い私には衝撃的でした。

私は基本的にハードロックが嫌いです。
ただうるせえだけじゃん、ということが理由です。

しかし、高校時代に、生まれて初めて聴いた
ハードロックのアルバムがこの「治療不可」でした。

「スポットライトキッド」や「アイサレンダー」の
わかりやすさにすっかり愛聴盤になりました。

本当のレインボーファンには不評らしいですが、

私にとっては、これぐらいわかりやすくないとダメです。

ポップスしか愛せない私なのです。
