マーヴィンゲイの１９７３年作品です。前作「ホワッツゴーイングオン」のクールで革新的なサウンドプラス深遠なメッセージというスタンスとはガラっと変わり、基本的にはオーソドックスなソウル、と呼んでいい骨格の作品になっているのではないかと思います。しかしその骨格が、彼にしかないセクシーさになっています。またドラムの音、ストリングス、ギターのカッティングなどが、例えば古き良きモータウンの音に一味加わっている印象があって、この作品の独自性や耐久性を上げている気がします。

名作『What’s Going On』とは明らかに違うMarvin Gayeが
ここには居る。『性』を全面に押し出し、自らの実体験を
ベースにした男の為の悲痛なラブソングアルバムである。
はかなげに唄う大名曲のタイトルトラックを筆頭に
感情を声に出して唄うMarvinを是非聴いてみて下さい。

間違いなくＲ＆Ｂ界の不朽の名作です。当然、ゲイの数多くあるアルバムの中でも一番出来の良いアルバムだと思います。とにかく非の打ち所がないのです。歌手よし、歌よし、バンドよし。アーニーワッツの甘く切ないサックスも涙もの。強いて言えば録音がちょっと短いのが残念（笑）。もっと聴いていたい。。。。最高のアルバムです。各家庭一枚持っておきましょう。
