１９８４年リリースの復活第１作・・・第２期黄金時代のメンバーで制作されています。時代に合っていたかどうかは別として非常に良い出来のアルバムと言えましょう。１曲目「ノッキングアットユアバックドア」でもう大感激でした・・・この曲にすべて凝縮されていると言っても過言ではありません。５曲目のタイトル曲・ハモンドから始まる｢パーフェクトストレンジャーズ」は、聴けば聴くほど味が出てくるかっこいい曲・・・ドリームシアターもカバーしてましたよね。全盛に比べてパワーダウンしているのは否めませんが、ロックする意気込みが感じられます。ディープパープル復活を心から喜んだ１枚！！

　1984年。黄金期である、第2期のメンバーで再結成を果たしたDEEP PURPLE。もう彼らも若くはなく、力任せのスクリームは聴けない。その代わりに、リッチーがRAINBOWで築いたハード・ポップのメロディーを導入。産業ロック的な聴きやすさを備えたアルバムとなった。

　本作は1999年リイシュー（再編集）盤。アウトテイクから、「Son of Alerik」というインストの未発表曲を追加収録している。更に、リマスターが施されているようで、少々硬かった音質が、自然に良く響くようになった。ギランの声がくっきり聞こえるようになったのも良い。

　メロディー重視となった事で、1曲1曲が表情豊かになり、結果として駄曲の少ない、高品質のアルバムに仕上がっている。特に1曲目の「Knocking at Your Back Door」は必殺の曲である。コーラスは、ヴォーカルよりもむしろ演奏が引っ張っており、今までなかった新タイプの展開だ。

　複雑な曲が多くなり、「ポップ曲」から、どんどん遠ざかって行ったZEPPELINよりも、私は分かり易いPURPLEの方が好きなんだなぁ。決して大衆性を外さない所がいいのだ。伝説にはなれなくとも、覚えやすい良い曲が沢山ある。DEEP PURPLEとはそういうバンドである。

　1976年に解散した70年代を代表するハードロックバンドディープ　パープル。そして解散から実に8年後の1984年に見事再結成され復活作第一弾となったのが本作の「パーフェクト　ストレンジャーズ」である。本作はアメリカではプラチナディスク(ミリオンセラー)を記録し、世界中でもヒットした名盤でもあり、また再結成後のディープ　パープルのアルバムとしては最大ヒットとなった。

　本作の曲調はというとこれまでのディープ　パープルのアルバムよりメロディックなロックサウンドであり、個人的に言うと本作の曲調はなんとなくレインボーにも似てる気がする。また本作には彼らの名曲のひとつでもある1をはじめ、再結成後のLIVEでは定番の曲でもあったメロディアスなナンバーの5などが収録されており、またルネサンス風サウンドにも聞こえてくる8は個人的にはすばらしいとは思う。また2や3は名曲とまではいかないかもしれないが70年代のディープ　パープルを連想するようなエネルギッシュなナンバーだ。またリッチー　ブラックモアやイアン　ギランなどのメンバーの個性も良く現れているのでかなり聴き応えがあってすばらしい。

　本作はディープ　パープルファンやHR/HM系ファンはもちろんのことロック系ファンだったら一度は聴いてみてはどうだろうか？
