ニール・セダカ＆グリーン・フィールドは、
60年代ー70年代に多くの名曲を残していますが、
このCDはその決定版です。Laughter in the rainは、
全米No．1を取った名曲ですし、Hungy yearsは、
聴くたびに、若い頃を思い出し、身につまされる
思いです。彼が還暦の来日時のライブは、感動的でした。
(ニールさんダンスが見られました。)

数年前まで雨に微笑をがコーヒーか何かのCMでかかっててずっと気になってて
やっとみつけました。苦労したー。この一曲をもとめて三千里。これだけの為に買いました。
でもその歌っている方がニールセダカだとは。もちろん知ってますが、どっちかとゆーと
自分の母ちゃん世代で聴いたら知ってる曲ばかりだけどね。
でもビートルズ以前活躍した人が一度の長い低迷を経て70年代半ばに
この雨に微笑をで大復活しているとは。これでは今までこの曲に辿りつけないのも納得できる。
で、結局このベストを買うことになったのだが、ほとんどの曲が知ってた。
一人のアーティストでこんなにたくさん有名な曲があるってすごいよね。
欲をいうならば、60年代のヒット曲はほとんど90年代に再録しているのだが
こういう曲は古い音のままで聴きたいよねー。勿論デジタルリマスタリングして。
その点がネックになった為星４つとさせていただきましたが
90年代の再録の為古くささは無く今の１０代の人が聴いてもそこそこ大丈夫だと思われる。
こういう素晴らしい曲たちはずっと後先まで伝えていかないとね〜

　11. 雨に微笑を-Laughter In the Rain　は全米第1位となった大好きな曲です。この曲を
含むLP、Sedaka's Backを買って10. 移住者-The Immigrant に出会いました。シングルカット
こそされませんでしたが、まさにしびれてノックアウト！解説にはビートルズ旋風と
ニューヨークへ移住しようとしていたジョン・レノンを意識したのではと書かれていました。
その他カバーされヒットした12. ハングリー・イヤーズ、上記３曲は大のお気に入りです。

　キャプテン＆テニールに初の全米No1をもたらした15. 愛ある限りも作者ならではの良さが
感じられます。カーペンターズのヒットで知られる14. ソリテアー は感動的なライブ・バージョンが入っています。5. おお,キャロル　は友人のキャロル・キングを歌ったものです。

　ただ、残念でならないのはエルトン・ジョンとデュエットしこれまた全米第1位と大ヒット
したバッド・ブラッドが入っていないこと。また、60年代のヒット曲がスタジオ再録版という
のが今ひとつ。LPではライブのメドレーで違和感が少なかったのですが・・・
音はいまいちでもオリジナル・レコーディングのものを聴きたいというのは贅沢なので
しょうか？RHINOさんあたりが頑張ってくれればと思います。
