STYXで一番売れて、最高傑作もしくは最高傑作の１つと思われるアルバムです。彼らの出身のシカゴに昔あった劇場をモデルにした栄枯盛衰のコンセプト・アルバムです。（予断ですが当時日本ではQUEENの全盛時でしたが、MUSIC　LIFEのインタビューでSTYXがQUEENより自分たちの方がコンセプトアルバムを先にやっていた事を強調していた記憶があります。）この後に気合を入れて出したコンセプト･アルバム「ミスター・ロボット」は売り上げや作品の質ともこのアルバムの足元にも及びません。
大ヒット曲「ザ・ベスト・オブ・タイムズ」(The Best of Times)「時は流れて」(Too Much Time on My Hands)だけでなく全ての曲が素晴らしく、またコンセプトアルバムですので、一曲一曲も良いですが、アルバムを通して聞くのがお勧めです。個人的には「ロッキン・ザ・パラダイス」(Rockin' the Paradise)「愛こそすべて（She Cares...なんだ！このあほみたいなタイトルは？ALL　YOU　NEED　IS　LOVEみたいじゃないか！）」が好きです。
またまた余談ですがこのアルバムのツアー最終公演が武道館でしたが、アンコール時デニス・デ・ヤングが自慢のひげをそりました。

前作ＣＯＲＮＥＲＳＴＯＮＥが名実ともに試金石となって、不動の人気を
確立したＳＴＹＸが満を持してリリースした大ヒット作品。

ちなみに、バンド名は「黄泉の国につながる三途の川」と言う意味の英語
で、読み方は「スティクス」であって「スティックス」ではありません。
（それなら「棒」でっせ・・・）

リリース当時のレコードには光に反射して模様が光る加工がされており、
かなりレコード会社も気合が入っていました。
気になる内容も、本当に素晴らしいの一言につきるできばえで、どの曲が
シングルになってもヒットするような作品がコンセプトアルバムにまとま
っている・・・という恐ろしいまでに完成度の高い作品です。

ＢＡＢＥの流れを汲むバラードチューン、ＴＨＥ ＢＥＳＴ ＯＦ
ＴＩＭＥＳやＲＯＣＫＩＮ' ＴＨＥ ＰＡＲＡＤＩＳＥといった
ポップロックチューンと相変わらずのバリエーションで、安心して聴いて
いただけます。

なお、タイトルのＰＡＲＡＤＩＳＥ　ＴＨＥＡＴＥＲとは、メンバーが
幼少の頃そだったボストン（だったかな）で栄華を誇った劇場をモデルに
しており、その栄枯盛衰（裏ジャケを見たらわかる）を表現しています。
つまり、お金とかカタチのあるものははいつかはなくなるし、なくなった後
はさびしく落ちぶれる（こわれてなくなる）だけ・・・でも、人間には
変わらず残る大切なものがあるでしょ。たとえば、ボクたちが、この
ＰＡＲＡＤＩＳＥ　ＴＨＥＡＴＥＲで味わった感激・シアワセな気持ちって、
ずっと持ち続け出いるんだよ・・・
てな感じのコンセプトだったでしょうか・・・。

70年代後半から80年代前半にその黄金時代を築いたスティックスの最高傑作。プログレとハードロックとをミックスさせたバンドとして知られているけど、結構ポップ。「ザ・ベスト・オブ・タイムズ」などのバラードを蕩々と歌い上げるデニス・デ・ヤングの甘い歌声にはうっとりさせられますが、個人的にはトミー・ショーの「時は流れて」が好きです。
