C'mon C'monでファンになった人も多いと思いますが、自分はやはり1stが一番好きです。
なぜなら・・・・。
「火曜日の夜にスタジオミュージシャン達が入れ替わりで集まり、才能ある彼女の為にセッションを繰り返しました。そして生まれてきた素晴らしい11曲を一枚のアルバムにまとめました。」

こんなエピソードを聞くだけで、シェリルの人柄とか、彼女を取り巻く音楽環境が想像できるでしょ？そして憧れるハズ。

気取らない仲間と集まってじっくり作った音。
楽譜渡して、「この通り弾いてネ。」とか、ここは切り取ってあっちのテイクと差し替えよう、なんてミックス作業は最小限で済ましたハズ。

そういうわけで、これがすっぴんのシェリルなんだと思います。

シェリル・クロウという人間の存在を世間に広めたのは
この作品よりは、２作目かも、しれない。
しかし、私は、この、ファーストアルバムこそ、シェリル・クロウという
人生の詩が詰まっている、飾ることの無い詩だと思っている。
シンプルなのに、聴けば聴くほど、心に染みてくる。
おそらく、これからもずっと、私の人生の必需品になるに違いない一枚だ。

ブラック・クロウズ、カウンティング・クロウズなんかの良質なメリケンロックが流行っていた１９９３年、シェリル・クロウは出てきました。
９曲目「All I Wanna Do」のシングルがプチヒットして、こんな音楽やる女がいるんだ、と驚いたものでした。
その後続々とシェリルのような「自立したかっこいい女性歌手」（シェリル・クローン？）が出てきましたが、その道を作ったのは間違いなくシェリルであるし、このアルバムです。

内容はというと、シンプルで素朴ともいえる作品が並ぶのですが、それが逆に「作られた感」が無く、またピキピキとした乾いたギターの音（おそらくテレキャスター）がかっこいい。
２nd以降は、ギャーンとしたロックねーちゃんっぽい作品が多くなっているけど、いつだってシェリルにはこんな音を求めてしまう。

例えば映画「ロッキー」が、ロッキーというボクサーのスターへ至る物語であると同時に、スタローンのスターへ至るドキュメント物語、という側面があるように、このアルバムはシェリルがスターに至るドキュメントのように思えてしまう。
仲間のバンド連中と、成功を夢見て楽しんでいる姿が、ありありと浮かんでくるのだ。
