「たとえようもなく美しいペルゴレージだ」　

ＣＤジャーナルのこのフレーズに惹かれ、スタバト・マーテルを初めて聴きました。透明な悲しさをたたえた旋律、清楚に澄みわたるカークビーのソプラノ、そして控えめにしかもしっかりとバックを支えるエンシェントの演奏。　まさにたとえようもなく美しいスタバト・マーテルだと思います。　その後、アバド盤、ヤーコブス盤、グラチス盤など多くの名盤と聴き比べてみました。澄み切った透明さで悲しみを表現できている点で、この演奏の右に出るものはないでしょうし、永遠にその名を残す名演ではないかと思います。

映画「アマデウス」の前半で印象的に使われていたペルゴレージの代表作。ヴィブラートを抑えたカークビーのソプラノ、印象的なボウマンのカウンターテナー、この二つが古楽器の奏でる音と同等に響きあい、これまでになく切なくも美しい世界を作り出している。
カップリングの「サルヴェ・レジナ」も佳い。

大変美しく、すばらしく、感動的です。曲の冒頭(デュエット）から美しいハーモニーが響き、まるで天国に居るかのような錯覚に陥ります。全体的に、聴いていると心豊かになるのを感じ、本当にこの世の雑事を忘れさせてくれます。コーラスでは魂を揺すぶられ、気持ちが鼓舞されます。文句なしでお勧めします。
