確かに遅めで、特にマゼッパは他の演奏者に比べるとかなり遅いですが、
一音一音丁寧で、音色の美しさは素晴らしいです。
私は特に第12曲が好きです。

第５番鬼火と第８番狩りは絶品である。しかし第４番マゼッパはテンポも遅く、とても馬に乗って駆け走る姿を想像できない。１２曲全体的に間延びした感じがする。よって星２つ。

はじめてリストの超絶技巧練習曲全集を買ったのが、このボレット。ボレットというピアニストもよく知らずに聞いてみた。まず(どの方も絶賛するが)リストの華々しいテクニックとドラマティックな展開に圧倒された。後に数多くのピアニストの全集CDを聞いてみて、ボレットの演奏評を言う。リストがいう、ピアノの技量の上をいくピアノという楽器をいかに響かせることができるか・・。という点においては彼の演奏は十分にクリアしている。しかしスピードと正確なテクニックを求め続ける演奏家らに対し、いまいち物足りない。ただ楽譜上の音符を一定テンポで弾く、模範的な演奏になってしまい、その内飽きてくる。それぞれの標題に適した情景を、ピアノで再現しようとする姿勢が細かい箇所で感じられるが、やはりダイナミックさ・技量を見せつける姿勢が感じられない。多くの人の演奏を聞いてみて、スピードばかりこだわりすぎてこの曲の真の詩情性を忘れたとき、ボレットの演奏で改めてその素晴らしさ、リストの努力に敬服するようになる。
