1982年6月22日から8月2日まで37コンサート、10月5日から11月24日まで43コンサート、計80コンサートをこなした中の最高のパフォーマンスを収めたライブ。

パット・メセニー・グループの歴史は、１９７７年、ゲイリー・バートンのグループを離れたばかりのパットが、７４年にウィチタの音楽祭でライル・メイズ（p)　と出会い、マイアミ大学時代の友人マーク・イーガン(b)、ダン・ゴットリーブ(ds)とで第１期パット・メセニー・グループを結成した事に始まる。翌年の７８年にはグループ名義の初のアルバム「想い出のサン・ロレンツォ」を発表。透明感あふれるサウンドは大きな反響を呼んだ。７９年にはセカンド・アルバム「アメリカン・ガレージ」を発表。初のグラミー賞のノミネーションを受ける。８１年、ベーシスト!がマーク・イーガンからスティーブ・ロドビーに交代。グループの代表曲である「ついておいで」を含むサード・アルバム「オフランプ」を発表。アルバムは大ヒットし、初のグラミー賞に輝いた。　８２年にはグループのツアーを収録した初のライブ・アルバム「トラヴェルズ」を発表。ライブとは思えないほどの精緻な演奏と音世界は多くの音楽ファンを唸らせた。このライブ・アルバムを最後にダン・ゴットリーブがグループを脱退する。

パットが当時使用していたのは、ギブソン・セミアコースティック・ギターES-175、イバニーズ・エレクトロニック12弦ギターAR112AV、ギルドのアコースティック・ギターD30、ローランド・ギター・シンセ・ユニットGR300とギター・コントローラG303だった。

パットを知る上で絶対に押さえておかなければならない1枚。

８２年７月、１０月、１１月に行なわれたツアーから、ベストプレイを厳選収録したライブアルバムです。
８２年のツアーということで、サウンド的には、アメリカの大平原を思わせる、どこまでも透き通っている青空を思わせる初期アルバムから多数収録されています。ただ、ツアー大好きなバンドだけに、とりわけＤＩＳＫ２では、ライブバンドらしいインプロチックなものも収録されており、ＰＭＧは、楽曲だけでなく、さすがにライブも凄いと思わせるものになっています。
２枚目のライブと比較すると、サウンドが変化を遂げているだけに、どちらがより好きかというのはあると思いますが、初期ＰＭＧが好きな方には、避けて通るともったいないアルバムです。欲を言えば、音がこもりがちなのですが、録音が古いので仕方ないですね。
