カントリーミュージックをルーツに持ち、また少年時代から黒人の友達が多かったというヘイデンとジャズピアノの第一人者であるハンクの味わい深い心に沁み入るデュオである。
ヘイデンのベースは、そのルーツの香りが色濃く漂う上にハーモロディックス理論（理念）のマスターである故ジャズとしては異端であるが、ベーシストとしてのスタンスは深く低くシンプルという正統派であるという奇妙なアンビバレンツが強烈な存在感を持つジャズベースの第一人者である。nobody knowsのメロディーを淡々と奏くヘイデンを聴いて欲しい。彼は楽器を演奏するのではなく音楽を演奏するのだということがよく分かる筈である。ハンクはジャズ界ではある意味地味なピアノかも知れないが、彼こそがジャズピアノの生きた聖典である。彼は当然ながら黒人教会に通いながら育った筈であり、深い洞察と愛情を持ってこれらの曲たちに対峙している。
　全編を通じる伝統的アメリカン・フレーヴァーに魅了され、そして暖かい気持ちにさせられる。隠れた名盤として推薦したい。

2.0 out of 5 stars ハンクのファンにとっては拍子抜け, 2001/6/26
チャーリーヘイデンのピアノとのデュオアルバムでは、ケニーバロンと組んだNight and the cityですばらしい雰囲気を作り上げたので、このアルバムにも期待をかけたのですが、ジャズファンにとってはいささか拍子抜けの内容でした。もっともタイトルのとおりスピリチュアル系の曲が並んでいたのでその時点で予想がつかないことは無かったのですが、それらの曲を素材にしてジャズ的にコクのある演奏を期待した耳には、緊張感が無く正直言って期待はずれでした。
