この「炎の化石」という曲はベストアルバム「Collective SOULS」に初収録され、その約ちょうど二年後にシングルカットされたそうですね。
売れ行きは芳しくなかったようですが、僕としてはこれで良かったと思います。
もしこの曲がシングルカットされてなかったらと思うと、こんな名曲がアルバム曲の域、ましてベストアルバムの単なるオマケ曲(?)で終わるには勿体無い気がします!

ただ、このシングルは早い頃から廃盤だったため、CDショップには、レア物の多い古い店でない限りは、全くと言ってもいいほど置いてなく、中古店ですら置いてある可能性が極めて少ない貴重なCDです。

幸い僕は図書館でこのシングルを借りて聴くことができましたが、「炎の化石」も「永遠」もなかなかの名曲だと改めて思いました。
ただ、商品としては一度も店で巡り合ったことがないですが(笑)

ちなみに、炎の化石は「Collective SOULS」、バラードベスト盤「Ballad 〜La Pluie」に、永遠のリミックスver.はオリジナルアルバム「MELLOW」、同じく「Ballad 〜La Pluie」に収録されています。炎の化石も永遠も一応アルバムで聴けますので大丈夫です。
ただ、永遠のシングルver.はシングル「永遠 〜Eternity〜」とこのシングルにしか収録されていませんが…(笑)

炎の化石は、深みがありしっとりとした雰囲気の出た美しいミディアムナンバーで、永遠は、感情の込み上がるようなサビが心を揺さぶるこれまた美しいバラードナンバーです☆
このシングルでなくとも是非聴いて下さい!

中身は、ベスト盤に入ってるんだけど、ファンならこだわって買いたい一枚ですね。ジャケ写は、'98年のアルバム、コレクティブソウルの予約特典のポスターの写真です。コレガ、また、カッコイイです。!見つけたら即買いの一枚だと思います。
