　「アカシアの雨がやむとき」や「エリカの花散るとき」、「コーヒー・ルンバ」と西田佐知子の定番が勢揃い！　お気に入りのアンニュイな曲「くれないホテル」とか、ザ・ピーナッツとはひと味違う「ウナ・セラ・ディ・東京」、沢たまきとも異なる「ベッドで煙草を吸わないで」なども収録されていてゴキゲンになる音盤です。　ファンの方々はもとより、“大人の女の唄を聞いてみたい”という若い人々も一度は聴いて損のないアルバムですよ。

西田佐知子の「アカシアの雨がやむとき」は名曲だと思います。彼女特有のけだるい雰囲気を持ったハスキーヴォイスは、当時の流行歌手にはない魅力がありました。トランペットのイントロを聴くだけで、歌い出しが出てきます。1960年当時の世相を反映したようなヒット曲でした。

橋本淳作詞、筒美京平作曲・編曲の「くれないホテル」はお気に入りです。名曲と言われていますが、レコード発売当時はあまり売れなかったそうです。セブンスのコード進行を使用し、少しジャジーなハーモニーがオシャレです。1969年当時の音楽シーンを考えますと、とても垢抜けていますし、彼女のハスキーヴォイスに良く合っている曲です。

彼女はスタイルの良い「美人歌手」というイメージでした。歌も容姿も優れており、人気がでるのも当然でした。ここに収められている「コーヒー・ルンバ」も有名な曲ですね。「涙のかわくまで」なんて聴いていたら、いしだあゆみの先駆という感じです。雰囲気がピッタリですしもっと情感が感じられます。

「エリカの花散るとき」「赤坂の夜は更けて」「東京ブルース」「女の意地」「涙のかわくまで」とヒットした曲も多いです。1971年に御存知のように関口宏と結婚した後引退し、そのまま芸能界から身を退きましたが、却ってその方が「伝説」となって良かったと思います。
