GSムーブメントの終焉後、タイガース・スパイダース・テンプタースからの選抜メンバー６人で結成されたのがPYGである。ギターの井上尭之を中心に「よりアートなロックをやりたい」とロックイベントなどにも積極的に参加したものの、観客からは「帰れ」コールを浴び石が飛んできた…という事実からもわかる通り、沢田研二と萩原健一というGSの代表選手だった“ツー・トップ”を擁した事が逆に災いし、ロックファンからからは冷たい仕打ちを浴びてしまった。しかしこのアルバムは、60年代の学生運動を背景にした激動期と、それが終り70年代の無力感漂う時代に変わって行くその狭間の宙ぶらりんな時代の不安感・曖昧さを、見事に象徴した作品だと思う。代表曲「花・太陽・雨」はまさにその60年代の敗残者的心象風!景を暗いトーンと哲学的歌詞にて表現しており、ある意味ではこの時代の代表曲と言って良い。この曲の歌詞を担当したのは岸部修三（現・一徳）。タイガース時代のベーシストであり現在は個性派俳優であるが、この岸部の歌詞は鋭くまた文学的で、底力を痛感されられる。この曲は最近、松藤甲斐によってリメイクされている。

アルバム全体のレビューはcymbalineさんのお書きになっているとおりだと思いますので、ちょっと私は「音」について・・。結論から言えばもう少し音が良ければ、もっとこの作品の緊張感やグルーブ感が増したのに残念でなりません。リズムセクション、特にドラムが殆どオフになっており、靴の上から痒い所を掻いているようです。泣きのギターやキーボードが良いだけに・・・。同時代のカップス、モップス、ダイナマイツ等の録音と比較してもかなりしょぼいです。まるでタイガースのような・・・と思ったら案の定、同じポリドールだった！（ミキサー氏の所為か）　最初から短命が予想されたスーパー・グループに相応しいとも言えるけど・・・。

　ジャケットも含めてとてもいい作品だというのが第一印象。ただし、今聴くと無理やり英語で歌ったり、演奏が長過ぎる曲（それでもベースの演奏は只者ではないが）があったりと滑稽な感じや粗は目立つが、楽曲も演奏も良いのだから方向性を定めた適切なプロデュースさえあればさらにいい作品集になっていたのではないかなと思える。特にツインリードボーカルの醍醐味がほとんどないのが残念。後にジュリーのソロ活動の相棒バンドに発展する萌芽が読みとれるのみで、ショーケンはゲストで参加しただけの感じが否めない。

個人的には沢田研二のやけっぱち一歩手前のボーカルが逆に凄みを感じさせるグルーブするロック1、艶のあるのびやかな祈りの声の奥にジュリー独特の倦怠感を漂わせるバラードの11が気に入っている。特に盛り上がるわけでもなく、シンプルな編曲で観念的な歌詞が淡々と歌われる6は皆さんおっしゃるとおりの名曲で、こういう醒めた感じは今の時代には出し難いように思える。ショーケンのリード２曲のうち7は一歩間違えると演歌になりそうなキワモノだが、寂寥感がうまく表現できている3は彼ならではの味が出ているいい曲だ。10は日本語版の方が断然よいのでこれが収録されたベストも要チェック！！
