ホロビッツ氏のピアノはライブで迫力と不滅のアート魂が炸裂するが、
この録音は究極に値する。男性ピアニストの魅力をもろに出したような
ＦＦＦが決定的である。
まず、凄まじい大音響に驚嘆する。それに合うピアノを選んだ
調律師モア氏も素晴らしいが、スクリャービンのエチュードの
盛り上げ方は82年のロンドンライブや85年版のスタジオ版よりも
決定的な演奏と成っており、当時のソビエト人の絶叫がよく
理解できる。英雄ポロネーズも強打のベースが魅力的で、私はこの
ＤＶＤ版を持っているが、彼の最晩年の最後の光にふさわしい
超名演と成っている。

　これはピアノが好きな人なら是非とも持っておくべき一枚だと思います。ピアノは無機的な楽器であるために、奏者の人となりがよく音に現れます。ピアニストにはかなりわがままな人が多いと思います。ホロヴィッツは、亡命後ようやく故郷へ帰ることが出来たその喜びを、まっすぐにピアノにぶつけています。その喜びが音からあふれています。この頃は、年のせいかミスキーも多くなっていたのですが、これはほとんど無い。それだけ気合いが入っていたのでしょう。
　この音は心まで響きます。

八十年代にホロヴィッツがモスクワで行ったコンサートのライブ録音。バロックから、古典派、そしてロマン派までの幅広い作品をおさめる。モーツァルトをこのようにロマンティックに弾いてしまうのは、古典派の様式にとってはかなりの冒険で、評価、好き嫌いは自ずから分かれるだろう。しかし、スクリャビン、ラフマニノフはさすがに申し分ないできばえを示している。円熟した、というより爛熟した後期ロマン派の精神でピアノを弾くというのは、こういうことかとも思う。今後まずあらわれないピアニストであることは疑われない。聴衆の熱気もよくとらえられており、鳴り止まない拍手やブラボーもレコードの聞き手を興奮させる。
