マイスキーは９９年にも同曲の録音をしていますが、
断然この旧盤（８４・８５年）を聴くべきです。
なぜなら新盤の演奏には、「マイスキーでなければならない」必然性が
ないからです。
もしあなたがマイスキーの、マイスキー以外には求めることのできない
濃厚でロマンティックな演奏を求めるのならば、この旧盤を聴いて下さい。

チェロの音色の善し悪しを語るのは難しいですが、バッハの器楽曲の中で『無伴奏チェロ組曲』はもっとも深い精神性を要求される作品だと思っています。チェロ奏者の技量は勿論のこと、バッハの深遠な音楽に対する真摯で深い思慮がなければ弾いたとは言えない厳しさを内在している作品でしょう。

この『無伴奏チェロ組曲』の数多の演奏の中ではミッシャ・マイスキーの演奏が好きです。ヨー・ヨー・マの端正な演奏も素晴らしいと思いますが、マイスキーのように表現力豊かにバッハの世界を思う存分描いてもらうと、リスナーにとってとても分かりやすいですね。このエモーショナルな演奏は、他の演奏家の『無伴奏チェロ組曲』とは違い情緒的です。その豊かな感性に委ねているところが多いのでしょう。

マイスキーのロマンティックな演奏は、バッハの作曲年代当時の奏法に対する研究の進み方もあり、評価は分かれると思います。テンポの揺らし方も大きいですし、燃え上がるような情熱を表に出した演奏は、好き嫌いがはっきりと分かれる解釈だと思います。言わば草書体のバッハとでもいうものかもしれません。

最も、これだけ生き生きとしたバッハはほかでは聴くことができません。無伴奏組曲ゆえ、奏者の個性がでるのは当然で、バッハの音楽への想いや造詣が明確に演奏スタイルに表れています。それも『無伴奏チェロ組曲』を演奏するにあたっての大切な要素だと思っていますが。

それぞれの曲が奏者の感性によって生き生きと表現されています。バッハの音楽語をマイスキー自身の言葉で我々に雄弁に語りかけます。すばらしい演奏と音楽を遺してくれたマイスキーとバッハに感謝。
