音楽はテクニック云々では、語りきれません。そりゃ、バックハウスやリヒテルのほうがすごいかもしれないけど、、、ケンプのこの『エリーゼ』を聴くと、非常にロマンチックで愛情あふれるアプローチに脱帽。

今は亡き巨匠、ｳﾞｨﾙﾍﾙﾑ･ｹﾝﾌﾟ。彼が敬愛していたベートーヴェンに優れた演奏を残す。ここにおける変奏曲その他小品も然り。ただ五つ星は残念ながらつけれない。それには自分もﾋﾟｱﾉ弾きであるから、当然のように済まされない問題、それはテクニックである。ケンプは生前から同時代のバックハウス達と比べて技術的な弱点を露呈してしまい、かなりの指摘があった。このCDを聴いて頂くとわかるが、パッセージ、連打等で、年齢も手伝ってはっきり技術不足を露呈している。自分は評論家ではないので技術と音楽の一体性をここで説明することもなかろうから・・・しかしケンプの凄いところは、これら技術的問題を完全に上回る音楽性にある。作曲家でもあった彼ならではの演奏哲学(この点は見事にオピッツに受け継がれている。)でもって繰り出される幻想的とも言える世界に、聴き手は痺れるのである。非常に柔和でありながら程よく引き締まった表現はまさに極上極まりない。心が渇ききった人々の慰めとなれ。そう思うのである。亡きケンプに耳をかたむける今、時代はケンプの弟子達が、恩師の技術問題も補って、活躍している。　　　　　　　ケンプよ、永遠なれ。
