人を感動させる音楽がある。余計なことを考えずに音楽に浸らないといけない。冷静に聴いてると彼の感動は伝わらない。レニーと一緒に音楽に酔おう。この演奏を聴いてから他の演奏では感動できなくなってしまいました。

ＤＧに録音したチャイコフスキーの３大交響曲の中でも最も異彩を放った演奏です。ＤＧ録音はバーンスタインのロマンチシズム溢れる音楽を楽しめますが、これは、究極と言って良いのではないでしょうか。第４楽章のテンポの遅さは、想像を絶するものがあります。決してスコアに忠実とは言えませんし、オーケストラも失速寸前です。初めて聴いた時に、裏ジャケットを見て録音時間が間違いではないか？と思った程です。これを好きになれたら、もう、他の演奏を聴けなくなる一種の中毒性を持っていると言えます。ドボルザークの「新世界」の有名なテーマも遅かったが、この遅さは空前絶後でしょう。かつて、モノラル録音でアーベントロートの指揮による第６交響曲もかなり遅いテンポで、個人的には気に入っていましたが、これを聴いたらもうバーンスタインの録音でなければ済まなくなりました。人によって好き嫌いの分かれる録音ですが、一度は聴いてみる価値があります。
