キース・ジャレットファンて゛このアルバムを聞き忘れている方いませんか。と「森の石松」が言いたくなるような素晴らしさ。他のジャズプレーヤーが演奏する"ジャズ的バッハ"ではなく、クラシックそのものですが、だまされたと思って聴いてみてと人に奨めたくなる逸品です。ちなみに「グレン・グールド」の同じ演奏を聴いてみると、こちらは逆に「クラシック的ジャス風演奏」に聞こえるのが不思議な所。

1990年5月録音。1989年の八ケ岳で録音したゴルトベルク変奏曲でキースは間違いなく自らの古典演奏の指針を掴んだに違いない。この第二巻ではハープシコードを迷わず選択し、全く迷いの無い演奏になっている。

ここにはジャズで大きな仕事を既に成し遂げたキース・ジャレットもいない。85年頃の悩みに悩んでクラシックとの決別を選択したキース・ジャレットもいない。過去の偉大なクラシック演奏家の影も無い。ただひたすら音楽を愛し、それを演奏する歓びに満ちた一人の人間がいるだけだ。

この第二巻でキースの古典への取り組みは完全に確立したと言い切れる。素晴らしい名演だ。

究極の名演。言葉を並べるもむなしい。しかし、他の演奏で平均律をもう聴いたと思っている人がいたとすると、いかにも惜しいと思うのであえて記す。確かにリヒテルの演奏はすばらしいし最高だと思っていた。だが、なんとこの演奏を聴いているとキースが最高だと私のハートはささやき出すのである。キースは観音である。
