今でも大好きなナンバーJohnny&Maryがヒット中の時に彼の存在を初めて知り、そのナンバーを含む前スタジオ作CluesでGaryNumanとの異色コラボで好きになった程度で大ファンでは無いのですが、そのGaryNumanにかなり影響され、シンセ、ドラムマシン等に熱中してエレクトロにハマっていた頃のRobertPalmerが当方は好きだった。本作は実験的な要素を多く含めつつ完成度が高い80'sテクノ名作の１枚と言っても良いのでは。テクノ好きなら確実にコレクションに加えて欲しい作品です。やはり本作収録のTHE SYSTEMのカバーナンバーYou Are In My Systemが最高です。TheSystemのオリジナルとRPのカバー、どちらが良いは賛否両論みたいですが、個人的にはどちらのバージョンも好き。TheSystemのミニマルでスムーズなノリのバージョンも＝味＝で、当時としてはあのエレクトロサウンドは最先端でした、TheSystemのオリジナルバージョンを軽いサウンドとか言ってバカにしてはいけません（TheSystemのバージョンは入手が非常に困難です）。さてRPのバージョンですが、聴くのは本作に収録のバージョンで、後のベスト版等に収録のリメイク（ボーカルリテイク）バージョンはダメです。オリジナルのボーカルを本人は気に入らなかったのでリメイクしたらしいですが、いやいや、オリジナルの勢いでやった様な荒っぽいボーカルテイクの方が全然ソウルを感じて良い。分かる人は分かる程度の違いかも知れませんが、彼の１曲をセレクトするとなった場合、当方は確実にYouAreInMySystemで、＝本作に収録のボーカルバージョン＝と言う事で。RobertPalmerのこのナンバーはいつの時代に聴いても最高にカッコ良いと思っています。R.I.P Robert Palmer

ロバート・パーマーが死んでしまってもうこの世にいない、というのは事実だとしても不思議だ。ファンクからテクノまで吸収し、あのルパート・ハインを迎えて作られた本作『Pride』や、デュラン・デュランやシックのメンバーと作った『Power Station』を聴いているとそう思う。まるでアンドロイド化したようなアルバム・ジャケットの彼は元気そのものだ。
