新ヴォーカリストにジョーベラドナを迎えて制作されたアンスラックスのセカンドアルバムです。 前作と比較すると、明らかにサウンドに大きな変化が起きています。どちらのスタイルがいい悪いということはないのですが、より一般的に知られているアンスラックスサウンドはジョー時代の、まさしく本アルバムSpreading The Diseaseのようなサウンドでしょう。もしこれからアンスラックスを聴いてみようと考えておられるならば、本作品かサードアルバムのAmong The Livingから入ることをお薦めいたします。メタリカやスレイヤー、メガデス、エグゾダス等のスラッシュメタルバンドとはひと味もふた味も違うアンスラックス独自のメタルワールドを堪能できる名作です!

スピードと、重たくて切れのいいリフを信条に全米アルバム・チャートをも、にぎわせたアルバム。
２本のギターとベースとが同じリフを刻み、伸びがあってしかも決して声が細くならないヴォーカル。
爆発的な疾走感が堪能できる好アルバムです。

ニュー・シンガーにジョーイ・ベラドナを迎えて制作された彼らの2nd。
前任シンガーのニール・タービンもパワフルな声の持ち主で悪くはなかったが、ベラドナと比較してしまうといささか役者が違う。

強烈なハイトーンを武器にしたベラドナの歌唱はバックのスラッシュ・サウンドとはミス・マッチになるかと思いきや、ANTHRAX唯一無二の個性を作り上げることに成功している。
ベラドナの資質とバンドの音楽性が一番マッチしていたのはこのアルバム。

ANTHRAX入門者はこのアルバムか次の｢AMONG THE LIVING｣がお薦め。
