Album Details

Japanese only SHM pressing. The SHM-CD [Super High Material CD] format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players. Universal. 2009.

ＲｏｘｙＭｕｓｉｃのＡｖａｌｏｎとこのアルバムは８０年代ロックの音楽的成果として双璧、と書いても賛同してくださる方も多いのではないでしょうか。初めて聞いた２０年（以上）前に、「こんなアルバムは日本人には永遠に作れないんだろうなあ」と思ったものだが、その印象は今も変わらない。ひとつひとつの曲が、メロディが、フレーズが、聞くたびに輝く。いいものはいつになってもいい、です。

ウインウッドって本当にカッコイイ。ソウルフルなボーカルとエッジの効いたキーボードにギターのプレイ。女、子供だけでなく男も泣かせるスペンサーデイビスグループからトラフィック、ブラインドフェイスの結成。その後のアップアンドダウンを経てのトラフィック最結成迄の血と汗と涙で築き上げたキャリア。ルックスも良いし。本当に言うことなし。今まで少し難しすぎてあまり売れなかったのだろうか。ソロ第？作の本作では、世間の人（女子供）にも分かり易いクールでポップな曲、Higher Loveを頭に持ってきて軽くヒットを場外へ飛ばしている。彼にしてみれば容易いことだけど、良く聴くとやはりただ者ではないウィンウッドがあぶり出されるしかけ。打ち込みサウンドの薄っぺらさを利用して、ゴージャスでソウルフルなサウンドを作り出した頭の良さがウィンウッド。天才のヒットチャートへの降臨が眩しすぎる。５０年代生まれのオヤジは全曲ノックダウンされましたが、時代を象徴したHigher Love,昔からのファンのためのTake Things As It Comes,Freedom Overspill,Split Decision。このアルバムでの打ち込みサウンドがフィットしたThe Finer Things,Wake Up Upon Judgement Day辺りが凄いと思いますが、やっぱり一番しっくり来たのがタイトルのBack In The High Lifeとかカワイコチャンを侍らせたMy Love's Leavin'（なんだ全曲じゃないか）で「ウ〜ン、ウィンウッドって判っているな。クー、タマラン」状態です。

カリブ風の"Higher Love"、マンダリンを使った"Back in the highlife again"と、多彩な楽曲がそろってカラフルな内容となっていますが、やはり、彼の魅力はハモンド・オルガンでしょう。
"The finer things"は、ともすると土臭くなるハモンド・オルガンを、都会風に聞かせる軽快なナンバーです。
