月光、悲愴、熱情。ベートーベンのソナタでもっとも人気のあるこの３曲を収めたＣＤはこの他にも沢山ある。私は古今東西の色々なピアニストの演奏を聞いてきたが、このブレンデルの演奏が一番しっくりとくる。特に悲愴がお勧めである。ブレンデルの悲愴には何か霊感漂うというか、魂を感じるというか何ともいえない奥深さがあるのだ。
このＣＤはベートーベンファンはもちろん、クラシックファン必聴の一枚といえるだろう。

クラッシックを聴きだして20年、その初めのころ買ったアルバムにこの悲愴があった。当時は古い巨匠の演奏をSP復刻あるいはSPで聴くのが最高という風潮があったが、僕にはとてもそうは思えなかった。その中でブレンデルの悲愴は現代を映し出すイモーショナルな演奏だと思った。NHKホールでシューベルトのソナタも聴いたが、このときレコードで聴いたこの演奏の方がずっと心に残っている。

ベートーベンの曲って、なんだかジャカジャカしていて、あんまり好きではなかったのですが、この演奏を聴いてベートーベンに対する考えかたが変わりました。演奏者によってはこんなに流れるような音楽にもなるんだなと初めて知りました。その分勢いはなくなるみたいだけど、わたしはこういう演奏好きです。
