オーディオ評論家の故　長岡鉄男氏も「すごい録音」と絶賛。４０年前の録音であるが、今なお序曲１８１２年のベスト録音である。アナログ録音であるためテープヒスノイズはあるものの、ダイナミックレンジ、周波数レンジとも広大。特に大砲の音は限界とも言える音量である。通常のボリューム位地で聞いていたら、ほとんどの人はあわててボリュームを落とすことになる。これを聞いたら最新のデジタル録音も裸足で逃げ出すこと請け合い。マーキュリーのクラシックＣＤは、３本のマイクのみで、リミッター、イコライザー、エキスパンダなどを一切通してないため音の鮮度が抜群である。

長岡鉄夫氏の御勧め録音。テラークレーベルでの1812年のスゴいが、鮮烈さではこっちのほうが良い。（テラークのは音圧や迫力が良い）かなり古い録音であるが、現代の20ビットとかスーパーＣＤなども裸足で逃げ出す音質である。クラシック向きの寝ボケた音色のスピーカーでは真価を発揮しない。そんなスピーカーで聴くと実につまらない音に聴こえる。D-58とかD-55などの大型バックロードホーンやハードドーム型の振動板を使用された大型スピーカー（重さ40キロ以上推奨）で、再生して欲しい。曲自体もとてもゆったり聴くような曲ではない。マスカット銃はパンパンと乾いた抜けのあるサウンド、大砲はズガン！！！ズガン！！と迫力満点。その音だけで10分は楽しめる。最後に録音に関しての解説が記録されている。
