   1972年12月にシングル「ルイジアンナ」でデビューを飾り、矢沢永吉のカリスマ性とともに日本ロックシーンに旋風を巻き起こしたキャロル。1976年5月にリリースされた彼らのヒット曲集『ゴールデン・ヒッツ・マークII』がオリジナルジャケット仕様で登場。チャック・ベリーの代表曲を陽気にカヴァーする<2>、好きな女の子にもてあそばれるジレンマを描いたポップなロックナンバー<3>など、1973年の1stアルバム『ルイジアンナ』から1974年の4thアルバム『キャロル・ファースト』までの作品を集大成。幻の名曲と名高いカントリーテイストの<1>、忘れられない恋の悲しみを歌った哀愁漂うミディアムチューン<10>、軽快なベースラインに元気なハンドクラップが陽気なムードを運んでくれる<11>と、オリジナルアルバム未収録曲も3曲収録。洋楽ロックへのあこがれやバンドの勢いが伝わってくる熱いベストアルバムだ。（武村貴世子）

初CD化というキャロルのベスト・アルバム第2弾。無茶苦茶シンプルで音もショボい。でもカッコいい。メロウ(?)なアダルト路線から一転してR&Rする17やカントリー調の13など,結構いろんなことをやっていたことがわかる。劇的なバラード,20も面白い。

伝説のグループキャロルは44曲のスタジオ録音と２枚のライブとデモ盤の記録を残した。本ベストはキャロル ゴールデン・ヒッツと合わせて揃えることにより、「ホープ、メンフェネステネシー、恋する涙、ミスターギブソン」以外のスタジオ録音が手に入る。最新盤のザベストよりもこちらの組み合わせをお勧めしたい。

あるいは、オリジナル３枚「ルイジアンナ、ファンキーモンキーベイビー、ファースト」と「ラストチャンスレアトラック」でスタジオ盤が全曲そろう。これは好みの問題だろうが、ライブ音源「リブヤング、ラストライブ」「グッドバイキャロル」の６枚で全曲（オリジナル未収録シングルも含め）がそろう。

通常のベスト盤にはない選曲が嬉しいです。キャロル初心者の人達はほとんど知らない曲だったりして。
