パット・メセニーにとってジム・ホールはあこがれのギタリストだった。1969年、15歳のパットはジム・ホールとロン・カーターのデュオをニューヨークのクラブで聴いた。彼をそこに連れていったのは、当時パットが師事していたアッティラ・ゾラー。その後、ジムのアルバムにパットがゲスト参加したこともあり、そうした過程を経て98年に録音したのが本作。全編2人だけで見事なコラボレーションを繰り広げる峻烈（しゅんれつ）なギター・デュオ作品だ。ジムとパットでは年齢的にも音楽的にもへだたりがあるように思うかもしれないけれど、実際はそうではない。ここでの両者は、どちらがジムでどちらがパットなのかわからなくなる瞬間もあるほどで、曲によってはまるで一卵性双生児みたいな演奏を行なう。曲は両者のオリジナルとスタンダード、それに2人を結びつけた恩人アッティラ・ゾラーの曲など。ジムとパットに共通する洗練されたハーモニー感覚が最高に素晴らしく、即興の妙もたっぷりと味わえる。これを聴けば、パットがいかにジムを尊敬しているかが如実にわかる。（市川正二）

素晴らしすぎます。二人のギターの語る物語のすこやかなシャレッ気とものすごくまっすぐな楽器への愛が聴き手を無茶苦茶に楽にする。文脈はいろいろなのだがそれをおぼえたてのアイウエオのように聴かせる凄さ。これをリピート・モードにして丸一年休みたい。
