「みちでバッタリ」という曲は７５年に１２歳９ヶ月で投身自殺した少年の詩だ。それに現代音楽の巨匠である高橋悠治が曲をつけたものだ。詩は「ぼくは12歳―岡真史詩集」に収められている。オリジナルは最初は中山千夏「ぼくは１２歳（７８年）」というアルバムの中に収められている。オリジナルの詩を読むと彼の感性が心に突き刺さる。痛い。しかし矢野顕子の曲を聞くと印象がわかるのだ。矢野顕子は彼を暖かく包んでいる。「もう一度純粋な子どもの視点から彼の世界を見てね」といわれたような気がする。救われる気持ちになる。この曲を聴くだけでも価値があるアルバムである。（筆者は矢野顕子デビュー以来のファン）

どんなときもどんなときもどんなときも。このころのイトイさんはすっげー歌詞を書いていたものだ。平易な言葉で時代の、というか当時のこまっしゃくれた若造の気分をかすめ取るような。（そりゃ、コピーライターだもんね）吉本隆明だ、栗本慎一郎だ、戸川純だ、ヨゼフボイスだドイチェアメリカニシェフロウントシャフトだ、アインシュトルッツェンデノイヴァウテンだ、と言っていても所詮は孤独で小心な青年たち。みんなこの曲で涙したものです。たたみいわし・ひざまくら~散歩テクテクのおいしい生活も素晴らしい。いまの無印そのままが20年前から提示されていたのだ。もちろん、こう感じるのはアッコメロおよび歌唱のおかげ。ＹＭＯに加えジャパンを筆頭に当時のロンドンニューロマンティックスシーンを巻き込みつつ、そして80年代宝島カルチャーの荒波に染められつつも、「愛がなくちゃね」は独自の暖かな世界があった。そしてそこが一番居心地がいいってぇのが宝島少年の本音だったかも知れないナー。ムツカシー顔をしたジャパンのミックカーンなどが「ヤッパリアイガナクチャネ~」とコーラスするのも愉快。

アナログ時代、レコードの高額化を懸念したアッコさんがジャケット／本体別売りにし、本体1,800円というのもうれしかった。もちろん、ジャケットは買わなかった（笑）

このアルバムは、それはそれは夢のようなアルバムなのです。
ＪＡＰＡＮのメンバーが全面的に参加、プロデュースは
坂本龍一とスティーブ　ナイ。特にスティーブ　ナイの手による
”悲しくてやりきれない””おいしい生活””みちでバッタリ”は
絶品、ほんっとにいい音です。そして、なんといってもラストの

デビッド　シルヴィアンとのデュエット，”ＧＯＯＤ　ＮＩＨＧＴ”。
世界最強のデュエットです。聴かんでどうする。
