「夢の途中」より好きな曲は、今のところありません。少しけだるげな、せつなさをたっぷりしみこませた声もさることながら、歌詞とメロディラインのきれいさ、すばらしさに、尊敬の念さえ抱きます。R&Bももちろん好きですが、純粋に素晴らしい旋律で構成された曲に張り合う価値のないものも多々あります。今聞いても本当に古びていない曲は、1980年代に多くありますが、その最高峰の曲が詰まったアルバムといえるでしょう。

一見、「来生たかお」は男性アーティストでアイドルとは関係ないと思われる方もいるかもしれないが、彼はシンガーソングライターとして確固たる地位を持って いるだけでなく、４００曲以上の曲を他のアーティストに提供している。とりわけ80年代アイドルにおいては、筒美京平や後藤次利と並んで重要な作曲家だったのも確 かである。来生の場合は作曲家の多くが作曲業に専念しがちな中、セルフカバーとして提供曲を改めてリリースしているのが異色であり、本アルバムも多くのアイドル に提供した曲が網羅されている。

２曲目の「夢の途中」は「セーラー服と機関銃 」のセルフカバーだが当時両作品とも大セールスを記録したのは異例で、本曲だけはセルフカバーでもタイトルを変えている辺りが何か特別な意味があるのかもしれない 。その他「セカンドラブ」中森、「楽園DOOR」南野、ORATION」斉藤、「語りつぐ愛に」薬師丸等色々なアイドルに曲を提供しているのが伺える（しかも大抵の曲がヒットをおさめ）。

本CDは本人のボーカルの音程を下げ、バックサウンドも原曲とは違うアレンジがなされていて、目新しく感じる事請け合いである。薬師丸や中森を例にあげればデビュー間もない時に提供しただけに影響力は計り知れないと感じる。マイナー調ばかりの曲が並ぶが逆に来生だからこそ他の追随を許さない感傷的なサウンドが作 れるのだろう。

このようなカバー曲ってやっぱり良い。聞きなれた曲でもアレンジが全く違うので再び始めて聞き始めるかのような感動を味わえる。しかもカバーはやはり曲を提供した本人がやるのに限る。元の曲を知り尽くしてるからこそアレンジの変更も熟知しているためだ。そういう意味では中島みゆきのカバー曲も聴き応えがある。

今度コンサートに行くので買ってみました。
知ってた曲は、夢の途中、スローモーション、セカンドラブかな？
薬師丸ひろ子と中森明菜の歌ですね。
懐かしかったです。
