一番最初に彼の曲を聴いたのは、ライブで聴いた「イジメテミタイ」でした。過去、私が最高に好きだと思っていたオフコース・中島みゆき・さだまさしなどのニューミューッジック(かなり古いですが)とは大きく違い、まさに『ガツン』でした。曲・歌詞・そして彼の声、妖艶です。アヤシイです。おそらく「好き・嫌い」がはっきり分かれる歌ですが、でもこのアルバムにはそんなアヤシイ曲ばかりではなく胸がキュｯとなる曲「月とナイフ」も。対照的な曲ですが、彼の『陰と影』が出ていると思います。

子供を保育園に送り、通勤の車の中で聞いています。スガシカオのアルバムの中でこれが一番好き。朝からこんなの聞いてていいのかな~と思いながらも止められません。”お母さん”から、一人の大人になる時間、狭い車の中でこっそり聞いている不健康さと、朝の光のギャップがたまらないです。

男だったらこんな風に愛情表現するのかなと感じるイジメテミタイ、決して永遠など誓えない、大好きだった、忘れられないあの人との恋愛を思い出させる黄金の月。せつなくなります。

初めてFMで聞いた時の衝撃を覚えています。
黒人音楽に影響されたであろうミュージシャンの方は
割と聞いて来ましたが、「こういうアプローチかよっ！」
と目から鱗でした。
音は、比較的チープな仕上がりなものが多いのですが
おそらく意図的で、それがなんともグルーヴを出している。
バラードも名作が多く（黄金の月、月とナイフ）サウンドだけでなく、

詩の世界にも重点を置いているのがよく分かる。
おかげで彼が別のアーティストに提供した曲でさえ
”シカオの歌詞だろ！！”と分かってしまうくらい
世界観も持っている。
シュールな部分とFUNKYな部分のバランスが格好いいね！
