   BLUE HEARTS解散後、ヴォーカルとギターが結成したバンド、THE HIGH-LOWSのファースト作品である。当時、彼らはBLUE HEARTSと同じバンドとして見られるのをとても嫌った。音楽性でも180度変わり、ストレートな演奏とヒロトの独特の歌には、研ぎ澄まされた深みがある。

これが１０年も前のアルバムだとは知らずにホンダのＣＭにつられて買いました。

最初は、『日曜日よりの使者』を期待して買ったので、アルバムの他の曲とのギャップに、正直｢なんじゃこりゃぁ、シングルにすればよかった…｣とがっかり。
しかし。くせでリピートで何回も聴いているうちに、だんだんとわかってしまうんです。歌詞がメチャクチャ？そんなことは洋楽を聴く時はほとんど気にしません。だからこそ、純粋に音楽として聴けたりします。私は聴く音楽９９％くらい洋楽なので、そう開き直ったら、どんどん解ってくるんです。

ロックは、聴くものではなく、感じるものだった、と。

学生の頃聴いたキッスや昔のエアロスミスやチープ・トリックなんかも、翻訳をみても意味不明でしたが、それがロックに乗っかるともう世界共通言語としてズカーンときたものでした。久しぶりに純粋な音楽を思い出しました。

チャートに入ってるような、カラオケ用の歌いやすい歌詞や陳腐な愛のフレーズより、聴けば聴くほど脳天に染みるような気がする。こういう人たちはこの国では決して売れに売れたりはしませんが、確かにちゃんといてくれるんだなぁと安心しました。

あと、切り売りダウンロードなんて流行り出した昨今で、「曲はアルバム通して聴くもの」と思い出させてくれて、今更ですが、ありがとう。

ヴォーカル甲本・ギターは真島というブルーハーツからのコンビでありながら、それまでの彼等とは違う作風を見せた1st。
ギラついた真島のギターと太いリズム隊、キーボードがバンドの音をより分厚く感じさせる。
意味を汲み難い歌詞もあるが、そんな事はお構いなしの勢いがある。
ブルーハーツとの決別を表すかのような「グッドバイ」から「日曜日の使者」まで、ハイロウズが事実上解散した今こそもう1度聴いてみて欲しい。

ハイロウズのデビューアルバムは、ジャパニーズロックンロールの決定版と言えるほどの名盤でした。ブルーハーツよりもメッセージ性は弱いけど、突き抜けるようなストレートな歌詞が最高です。
ヒロトも「カッコいい！」と言うデビューシングル「ミサイルマン」、悩みなんか吹っ飛んでしまう「スーパーソニックジェットボーイ」、映画ｾﾞﾌﾞﾗｰﾏﾝの主題歌「日曜日よりの使者」は名曲中の名曲です。
ハイロウズの原点、悪ガキのロックンロール。僕はこのアルバムをハイロウズのベストに挙げます。
