菅野よう子さんが光栄作品を担当していたころの作品の一つです。

光栄時代の作品ということで、それほど大きく菅野よう子さんにフィーチャーしているわけではありませんが、それでも、ゲーム音楽をいわゆる「ピコピコ音」で終わらせまいとする光栄はさすが。録音もしっかりしていますし、菅野よう子さんならではの雄大な曲を楽しむことができます。

オープニングテーマとエンディングテーマはいうまでもなく、ヴォーカル曲である「2:セイレンの歌」や「8:プリンセス・クリス」では、のちに「マクロス・プラス」で全開した菅野よう子さんならではのサウンドの片鱗が感じられて興味深いです。

残念なことに、この作品を新品で入手することはほとんど不可能ですが、「1:オープニング-果てしなき航海-」「3:中世のこだま」「5:オリーヴの風」「10:サザン・トワイライト~喜望峰でダンス」「11:七つの海へ」の5曲については、「大航海時代 II スペシャルエディション」で楽しむことができます。

もしまだお聴きになったことのない菅野よう子さんファンの方がいらっしゃったら、こちらをお勧めです。

信長の野望シリーズ、数々の人気アニメの音楽を手がけている菅野よう子さんの比較的初期の作品です。

全曲アレンジですが、オリジナルの雰囲気を心地よく膨らませた作品に仕上がっていると思います。「哀愁のポルトガル」は中でもお気に入りで、ＣＤを引っ張り出してきてはアコーディオンの音色にウットリしてます。ウ~ン、良いです！

大航海時代をプレーしていればより楽しめますが、そうでない人も安心して聴ける内容ではないでしょうか。
