~「ごあいさつ」がはっぴいえんど、「系図」が武蔵野タンポポ団とのセッションだとするなら、「石」は薗田憲一とディキシー・キングス！
高田渡さんの頭の中では、フォークもジャズもシャンソンも、ちゃんと同じ辺りにあるはずだ。そして、何より、人の世に対して、カテゴリーや概念などというものを持ち込んでいないはずだ。

底抜けなジャズ・ソング、「私の青空」「私は私よ」の合間に、ギターの音やさしく響く「ものもらい」「ひまわり」「石」・・・。
同じ頃の春一番コンサートでも、ディキシー・キングスとともに歌っていて、何とも面白くてその世界の豊かさに笑ってしまう。

ベルウッド３部作の最後のレコード、「石」。歌詞カードは本人の意図により、付けられなかった。代わりに、ヨーロッパで撮った１枚の写真が入っている。（CDでは、とても小さく、印刷も悪いけれど、LPではもっと大きいサイズだったのだろうか？？）
高田渡さん・・・いつまでも歌いつづけてほしい。~

　高田渡の歌は優しい。彼の歌は、普通に生きる人々の心を拾い上げては歌にする。彼が拾い上げるのは「ホームレス」「浮浪者」「余剰」「分析」などという言葉や概念ではなく、人々が胸に抱いてはこぼしていく様々な気持ちだ。それらは素朴で、少し寂しく、優しい。今の音楽シーンではめったに聞くことの出来ない歌たちが、たとえばこのアルバムにはぎゅうっと詰め込まれている。是非聞いてみてください。

　７０年代の代表的フォークシンガー、高田渡の”ベルウッド三部作”の三作目。
　前述の三作、「ごあいさつ」、「系図」、そして本作、どれもそれぞれ素晴らしいのだが、個人的にはスイング・ジャズの香りのする本作が断然一番です。

　高田渡の歌い口は声を張り上げるわけではなく、朴訥に語りかける風だし、作曲スタイルが詩人の詩を用い、それに様々な曲をつけるというほうほうなので、どうも今の若い人にはアピールするところは少ないかもしれない。しかし、このアルバムで聞けるような暖かく、それでいて芯が強く、てらいの無い優しい視線にあふれた歌が聞けなくなっている昨今、このうたを魅力的と思える人は逆に増えているのではないか。ここにあるのはメッセージ・フォークではなく、時代が過!ぎても変わらない個々の寂寥感や、ささやかな幸せだ。これくらい嘘の無い歌を、今どれだけの人が歌っているだろう？
