主人公であるP.オースティンの歌唱力については言わずもがなです。
Jazzシンガーに分類されるのか、R&B、Soulシンガーに分類されるのかは意見の分かれるところでしょうが、"ライダー・イン・ザ・レイン"はなんとカントリーソング!! 懐の深さを見せつけてくれます。
冒頭のMC(全てを聞き取れた訳ではありませんが (^^;)では、"黒人女性でもカントリーが歌えることを証明してみせます"ってなこと言ってます。観客はヤンヤヤンヤの歓声をあげてこれに応えます。
＃この時P.オースティンは20代でしょうから、度胸ありますね!
それから、ちょっと"斜め"から聴いてみると(CDの向きじゃありません)、バックを盛り立てている面子も凄いです。プロデュースのC.テイラーの顔の広さ故でしょうかね。
名だたるフュージョン系セッションミュージシャンがテンコ盛りです。
M.ブレッカー、D.スピノザ(私のお気に入りです)、W.リー etc..
また、バンドリーダーというクレジットでL.ペンダーヴィスがkeyを担当しています。リーダー作こそ出していませんが、いい曲を書くんです、この人。
この作品に先行する<Enf of a Rainbow>や<Havana Candy>といった辺りも聴いてみようかと思っています。
