4.0 out of 5 stars アメリカ人の深層心理にある恐怖, 2003/1/24
人里離れただだっぴろい場所で、自分の慣れた世界から切り離され、交通手段も連絡手段もなくなって、全然違う考え方を持った人たちの手に自分の運命が落ちたらどうしよう
…という漠然とした恐怖は、（当然どこの国のどの人でもあるけれども）、特に国土が広いアメリカでは、強いのではないかと思います。その伝統的な恐怖を、南部と北部の対立という歴史を材料に扱ったのがこの作品です。

血は控えめですが、亡霊ネタと集団狂気ネタをこういうふうに絡めるのは意外と珍しいのではないのかと思います。それをまた脳天気なカントリー音楽にのせているのがなんともウィアードです。

正直、ここまで面白いとは思いませんでした。
「スプラッターの始祖」という肩書きから、
内容よりもグロイ映像重視かと思いきや、
これがなかなか素晴らしい作品。

ストーリーはもちろんのこと、カメラ回しや
カントリー基調の音楽が特に素晴らしく、
最後まで全く飽きずに観る事が出来ました。
また、'64年作という古さも感じませんでした。

監督が脚本・撮影・音楽の全てをこなし、脚本は3日で書き上げ、
監督自ら主題歌を歌い、撮影日数は14日、
6万ドル程度の低予算で作ったとは全く思えない、
単なる「スプラッター」とも「ホラー」とも呼びたくない「傑作」、
いや、鬼才ならぬ「鬼作」という造語で表現したくなるような映画です。

DVDの仕様に関しても、画質はデジタル・ニューマスターなので文句なし、
特典として監督・製作者・インタビューアーによるコメンタリー、
オリジナル予告編、ポスター画集など、この年代のマニアックな映画としては
とても充実した内容となっております。

スプラッタ映画の始祖「鮮血の魔術師」ことＨＧルイスの作品。
おそらくは彼の最高傑作ではなかろうか？

いやあスゴイ、スゴイ。
特撮そのものはチープ極まるのだが、登場する村人たちの描写がひどい。
みんなで陽気なカントリーに乗り、大笑いしながら殺戮を繰り広げる！
そのイカれっぷりに圧倒されること請け合い。

「血肉の持つグロさ」ではなく、「狂気の持つグロさ」を存分に味わって欲しい。

ちなみに、題は「西暦2000年のマニアックな出来事」ではなく「2000人の狂人」の意味である。
