１９９２~３年当時、後に続く小室ブームの前ブーム「B-INGフィーバー」が巻き起こっていたが、中でも最もお気に入りのバンドの一つだったのがこのT-BOLANだった。全体的に派手な飾り気がある楽曲ではなかったけどシンプルでありながら魂に迫るような迫力あるサウンド（例えばシャープでパワフルなドラミングやディストーションが効いた歪系でありながら泣きの旋律が入ったギターサウンド等）やセンチメンタルな気持ちにさせるような美しいメロディーが多かったそれに加え森友のハスキーボイスが絡み合い、自分の中ではTBOLANは最高のバンドとなった。

洋楽には無い邦楽独特の美しいメロディーを尽く反映させていたバンドこそTBOLANだったのでは無いだろうか？特に１・３・４・８・９のような曲にマイナーコードの美しいメロディーラインが諸に反映されている。これらの曲はサビメロが一番盛り上がるのは言うまでも無いが、そこに至るまでの前奏部分での森友の気持ち抑え目で歌いつつもかすれそうでかすれない、それでいてぎりぎりのラインでビブラートをかけている微妙な歌い方こそ他人には真似できない技だったし彼の最大の魅力だと思った。それがあってこそ更にあのサビメロの解き放たれるような声量を更に良いものへと感じさせたのだと思った。そしてラストのサビへ移るまでの間奏ギターも大抵が泣きの旋律を奏でる美麗なメロディーを聴かせてくれた。とてもシンプルで技のあるギターソロでは無かったけど、飾り気が無い奏法でリスナーの心を捉えるメロディーを作る事ほど難しいことは無い事もあるのだ。
勿論曲全体のメロディーだって言う事無い。

当時を思い出して聴くのも良し。最近の知らない若者はこういうサウンド・バンドもあったんだと掘り戻って聴くのもありだと思う。

T-BOLANのベストは、結構多くリリースされていますが、
その中でも、この「SINGLES」が一番いいと思います。
どれも、ヒット曲ばかりで、T-BOLANの入門としても適しています。
また、最後の方には、何とボーナストラックが！！
色々と楽しむ要素が多いので、知らない方は、是非聴いてみてください！！

デビュー5年目の年に発売されたシングルベスト。
T-BOLAN自体は、この3年後に末期はほとんど活動することなく、
解散するのだが、このアルバムはいわば「一番あつい時期」の
T-BOLANの音が凝縮されていると思う。
曲の並びも悪くないし、そして作品自体も決して悪くない。
それに歌の表現力も、ピタっとついたら聴いている側を
離さない力がある表現力である。
さすが、ボーカルはT-BOLANより前にも、ソロや、
他のバンドでのプロ経験があり、当時から表現力はあった。
バンドの曲としては、一曲おきに、歌のジャンルが変わり、
えらい飛び方で内容が変わるが、それでもプロの仕事として、
「こなしている感」は否めないが、でもウマい。
個人的に一番気に入っているのが「SHAKE IT」であるが、
この曲は、非常に60年代のロックを意識した曲で、
聴いていておもしろい。
全体で8年間の活動のうちの5年間をこのCDで聴くことができるが、
このCDで満足したら、解散時に出たベストや、
「at the BEING studio」を聴いてみるのも良いと思う。
