朝比奈7回目の録音で、90歳時のもの。過去のものもそれぞれに味はあるが、ベストがどれかと言われれば、おそらくこれであろう。テンポ自体は過去のものより気持ち速いくらいだが、より地に足のついた安定感と、無駄のないすっきりした響きが出ている。

朝比奈のブルックナーは骨太な解釈からか、やたらごつごつした印象をもたれがちだが、今回のsym#8は別格。録音もこの会社としてはベストの出来で、非常に好感を持った。過去に手兵大フィルで何度もこの曲を録音しているが、オケの技量からか齟齬の多いギクシャクした演奏も少なくなかった。都響盤にはそういう心配もなく、非常にスケールの大きい演奏が繰り広げられている。何より朝比奈が振りやすそうだ。朝比奈ファンだけの宝物にするには惜しい逸品だと思う。

朝比奈隆指揮、東京都交響楽団の演奏するブルックナーの交響曲第8番(ハース版)のディスク。1998年の収録だ。安定感のある演奏で、大阪フィルとの演奏とほとんど雰囲気は変わらないが、管楽器の響きやティンパニの味付けなどが微妙に異なり楽しめる。緊張感を強いる弱音部分の演奏などで、若干奏者がプレッシャーを感じている様子が伝わってくるが、それも好ましい。第一楽章から巨大な精神力に圧倒される。終楽章の後半の出来は、オーケストラの体力もあるのか、大阪フィルよりも充実しているような感も。特にコーダの最後の響きはベストだろう。

　正直言ってブルックナーは苦手、ワルターのブルックナーは比較的好ましく、ギュンターヴァントはもう一つのように感じられる私だが、この演奏は何度聞いても好ましい。
　東京都交響楽団というところで、どうなのかなと思いきや、完璧な演奏。録音もよく、日本の交響楽団の演奏もとてもすばらしいことが良くわかる演奏と思われる。
　ぜひ御一聴を。
