人間椅子といえばブラック・サバスを彷彿とするような重くおどおどろしい世界を想像するだろうが、若干軽めな音にプロデュースされているせいもあるだろうが、このアルバムは比較的キャッチーな内容となっているといえる。といっても、前半五曲の話で、後半はどちらかといえば、従来どおりの渋い楽曲が並んでいる。

攻撃的なリフが全編にわたって響くM1、ヘヴィながらキャッチーなメロディを持つM2、M3、ヘヴィ・メタルの走りと歌謡曲を融合させたようなM4、シングルカットもされたどこかポップなM5、アルベジオが印象的な倒錯的な耽美世界を描くM9、ひたすら重く最高に酔えるM10など、名曲、佳曲が並ぶ好盤だと思う。

前作と比べるとちょっとインパクトが薄い気もするが、噛めば噛むほど味が出る名盤。
「爆弾行進曲」は間奏部分、細かく刻みまくるギター・ベース・ドラムによって表現された軍隊の行進曲みたいな旋律が面白い。前曲の勢いそのままで走り出す「遺言状放送」はセリフが面白い。最初3曲のノリが似すぎているのはちょっとつまらない気がするが。「憂鬱時代」は間奏のしぶくわびしげなアコギのソロと最後の熱狂的なギターソロがたまりません！「夜叉ヶ池」は特に名作。前半はフォーク調、さみしげで貧しげ子守唄・わらべ歌のようなイメージで日本的な情緒にあふれた心にしみるメロディー。途中からスピードアップして疾走感のある激しい展開に。その曲展開が移り変わっていく過程の昇りつめていく感じが実に素晴らしく、興奮します。「盗人讃歌」はいかにも人間椅子らしい曲展開と詩、民謡調の歌回しも映える名曲。壮大、大自然の神秘的な力が湧き出てくるようなイメージ。「うーうーうー」という美しく穏やかな歌声がしみる。間奏での激しい熱狂、曲の終わり方もカッコイイ。「甲状腺上のマリア」は穏やかでのんびりした、春の日だまりに包まれているような雰囲気だが、歌詞が非常に謎めいていて不気味。過剰な愛、あの人と１つになりたいという思いが行き過ぎて、自分の体を料理にして愛する人にこっそりと食べさせる…といった内容だろうか。優しく癒し系な歌声が逆に気味悪く怖い。「太陽黒点」は怪しい新興宗教みたいな詩が面白い。最後のサビで尻上がりに盛り上がっていき、やたら大げさな演奏でしめくくる…アルバムのフィナーレにふさわしい壮大な展開が素晴らしい。

頭っからシッポの先まで、これでもかと名作を叩きつける、サディスティック・アルバム。こんな楽曲の鞭でシバかれたら、ヘロヘロになっちゃうけどそれも快感だ。「心の火事」は、椅子をよく知らない人でも、オオッ!と思えるハズ。
是非聴いてみて下さい。
