オンリー･ワンをここまで出せたヴォーカルは東京ではお目にかかったことはない。バックメンバーが悪いというわけじゃないが、ピアノまたはピアノトリオの伴奏だけで澄淳子の色を放っていられるヴォーカルだ。フラットなまでの音程が魅力を倍増している。

「あこがれのハワイ航路」「夜霧のブルース」「カスバの女」などの戦争直後にヒットした歌謡曲を英語で、しかもジャズで歌ってしまうという奇想天外、誰も考えなかったやり方。しかし、聴くと、いいのだ。立派にジャズになっている。全ての歌が、ジャズ・スタンダードのよう。こんなアイデアを実現した澄み淳子はすごい。聴けば分かるが、きわものの盤ではない。オリジナリティーとジャズとしての完成度に拍手。
