   文句なしに映画ファンをうならせる傑作。舞台はアメリカ西部、モハーベ砂漠にたたずむさびれたモーテル「バグダット・カフェ」。そこは日々の生活に疲れきったモーテルの女主人や、日夜遊びに明け暮れる娘、売れない画家、ピアノの弾けないピアニストなど、うだつのあがらない人々が集う場所だった。そこへやってきたのがドイツ人のジャスミン。彼女の出現は、徐々に周りを変えていく…。
   本作は砂漠のように枯れ果てた人々の心に、たっぷりの水で潤いを与えてくれる映画である。砂漠色の黄色を基調に描いた映像には夕暮れ時の物憂げさがあり、バックに流れる名曲『コーリング・ユー』はひたひたと静かな感動を呼び覚ます。この歌が軽快なリズムに変わっていくにつれ、ジャスミンの魔法は花開き、人々に笑顔が戻っていく。ジャスミン役のマリアンネ・ゼーゲブレヒトの印象が強烈だ。87年、西ドイツ作品。（齋藤リエ）

吹き溜まりのようだったバグダッド・カフェを、砂漠のオアシスにしてしまった異国からの珍入者ヤスミン。ただの太ったおばさんが何故か映画を見終える頃には、魅力的に見えてしまいます。

私がいちばん好きなのは掃除のシーン。埃だらけのバグダッド・カフェのフロントをヤスミンが、ぴかぴかに磨きあげてしまうシーンが凄く気持ち良い！！そして女主人ブレンダが、これを期に綺麗好きになって、「汚さないでちょうだい」みたいなことを言い始める。（ちょっと違うかもしれません。セリフ忘れてしまいましたが、こんな感じ。）こういうバグダッド・カフェの人たちが変わってゆく姿に一人、にやりとしてしまいます。
本当に良い映画。「明日もガンバるぞー！」って気にさせてくれる。
