私たちの世代にとって青春のタイトルでもあるカーペンターズを鮮やかに表現されています。カレンの微妙な歌いまわしをフルートでここまで表現できるんですね。すばらしいです。　原曲以上！！と感じるフレーズもあります。　カーペンターズファンのみならず、また特にフルートを普段聞かれない方でも楽しむことができる一枚です。

カレン・カーペンターの深くて温かいヴォーカルが皆の心に息づいていますので、そのレパートリーをフルートで演奏するとなるとＢＧＭのように聞こえてくるのでは、と一抹の不安を隠せないまま、聞き出しました。

高木綾子は、カレンの歌のフレーズをとても大切にしています。収録当時、東京芸術大学４回生でしたが、過去のコンクール優勝歴同様、安定した演奏を聴かせてくれました。ポップスとクラシックとは伝えるべき感性がことなるように思いますが、抒情的な曲とフルートの相性はとてもいいですね。音色もいいですが、フレージングの歌わせ方に感受性の素晴らしさを感じました。

若い方もよく知っている「青春の輝き」、ボサ・ノヴァタッチの「マスカレード」、カーペンターズの編曲を大切にした「涙の乗車券」、そして今も多くの人に聴かれる「スーパースター」「イエスタデイ・ワンス・モア」「遥かなる影」、深い音色が印象的でフルートによく合う「愛のプレリュード」「ハーティング・イーチ・アザー~ふたりの誓い」「動物と子供達の詩」など愛してもやまない名曲の数々を堪能しました。

センチメンタルな気分にピッタリの「雨の日と月曜日は」も良い演奏でした。ストリングスとフルートのからみも美しく、中間部のジャジーなフレーズの処理も巧みでした。もう少し陰影がつくとこの曲の深い意味合いがでるのですが。

惜しむべきは「ア・ソング・フォー・ユー」の冒頭の畳み掛けるような切ないフレーズにもう少しパッションが欲しかった気がします。表現力のある奏者ですので、より一層感性の研ぎ澄ましを願いたいと思っています。

これは美しい音色だなぁ。年令を問わず、聞いた方々の反応がとってもいいのです。カレンの太く、生命力に満ち溢れるような歌声を高木さんのフルートが見事に生かしきっています。フルートってそんなにいい音じゃないと思ってました。こうして聞き慣れた曲をフルートで聞くと、楽器の特徴、音色が良く分かります。もちろん演奏者にも音色にも魅力がなければこうは行きませぬ。 こうして次の高木さんの作品も欲しくなるのです!
