　このアルバムとの出会いは、とあるCDショップのイージーリスニングのコーナーの試聴器に入っていたのを聴いたことである。初めの曲のイントロを聴いた瞬間、このアルバムを買おうと思った。美しい。メロディが美しい。そして買って中に入っている歌詞カード（って言うんだろうか？）のイラストの美しさにまた感動。夜、静かに仕事をしたい時、またくつろぎたい時に聴くと満天の星空が心に描かれるような気がする。偶然出逢えた音楽に感謝したいと思える一枚だ。

久石譲さんというと、宮崎駿さん監督作品やその他映画音楽のイメージが強いですが、
映像作品とは関係ない分野の作曲も数多く、アルバムも多数リリースしています。
その中でも特にお薦めなのが、この作品｢銀河鉄道の夜」です。
特に派手さはなく、サビだけが頭に残るという類の曲とは違い、
アルバム全体を通して聴いていると、ゆったりリラックスした気持ちになります。

傑作の１つに入ると思う。ここに派手なアレンジや技巧はない。
しかしシンプルながらしっかりとしたメロディの
何にも負けない強さが心に響いてくる。
近年の物より作曲者自身の良いところが表れていると感じる。
