”最後の雨”がヒットした当時は「歌が上手い」とか「曲が素敵」という意識では無くて、私自身歌うのが好きだからなのか？ただただ中西さんの歌が好きでした。

このアルバムも発売当初から気になっていたのですが結局買えなくて・・・
そして中西さんの歌はメディアからも聴こえなくなり、同時に私の記憶からもゆっくりと遠ざかり、あれから10年が過ぎました・・・

そんな去年、あるアーティストさんがキッカケをくれて私は声を凄く出せるようになったんです。
そして歌うことがもっともっと楽しくなりました。

それで思い出したんです・・・このアルバムを。
大好きだった中西さんの歌を。

時を経て再会した中西さんの歌は驚きに満ちていました。
ずば抜けた歌唱力、表現力。深い詩の世界観。

そして”Ballad”とは、”痛みを叫び”想いを訴え”勇気を与える”歌なんだと教わった気がしています。

”歌う”って、きっと心を通わせることなんでしょうね。

ここまで歌うことの難しさや楽しさをアルバムを通して伝えてくれるヴォーカリストって他にいるんでしょうか？

”歓送の歌”にこんな歌詞があります。

〜　若いからじゃなくて　夢に挑むことで　僕たちに別れはないという　心通えば 〜

こうして歌は夢を生み、人と人を繋いでゆくのでしょう。

このアルバムは、中西さんは、歌うことを通じてそんなメッセージを伝えてくれました。

　タイトルどおり、中西さんの「“魅力満載な”バラードだらけ」のＣＤである。「バラード＝切々と歌う」のイメージがあるが、「君が微笑むなら」「ＬＡＳＴ　ＣＡＬＬ」などはどちらかと言うと「気持ちが入りすぎて声を張り上げたような歌い方」もある。
　かと思えば「一日の終わりに」「ＬＯＶＥ　ＴＩＤＥ」のように淡々と歌うバラードもある。

　そして「歓送の歌」のように少しずつ盛り上げていくような歌い方もしている。
　「バラードだらけ」と言えば、「静かに歌い上げる」イメージがあるが、このアルバムを聴くと「それだけじゃないんだ」と思う。

バラードということですが　”物悲しい曲”という出来ではありません。
歌詞は悲しげなものがあっても、曲調は暗いものでは決してなく、
立ち上がっていく際の気持ちの切り替えのようなものを感じさせます。
全体的にキッチリと歌い上げています。

声質的には決して飛びぬけたものではないように感じますが、

あれだけの高音を歌い切り、全体を聴かせるあたりには力量の高さを感じます。

アレンジ的にはエコーが若干効き過ぎているという感は残ります。
それ故の重ったるい感じのアレンジが苦手な方は最初は抵抗を感じるでしょう。

バラードという曲調の特性上、曲やアルバムの印象がフラットになるのは避けられませんが、

曲を上手に組み合わせて聴いている者を飽きさせない感じがします。
飽きの来ない理由の一つは、音がバラードっぽくアレンジされているということではなく、
聴き手を離すことなくキッチリと聴かせているアルバムであると言うことでしょう。

アレンジでなく　”声と歌”　で聴かせているアルバムです。

スカしたものでなくて、がっぷりとヨツに組まれたアルバムです。
