「手紙」「チューリップのアップリケ」「山谷ブルース」「友よ」が入っていないと私にはベストとは呼べません。考え方は色々あると思うし、特にこのようなシンガーには付きまとう軋轢ですが、岡林信康の選ぶ「岡林ズＢＥＳＴ」と私の選ぶ「岡林ズＢＥＳＴ」は違っていても当然なんだと思う。

岡林はコロムビアで「うつし絵」「岡林信康」「ラブソングス」「セレナーデ」をリリースしている。このベストは自選の新録音２枚組ベストである「岡林信康」と「ラブソングス」からの選曲で構成されている。
新録音には「うつし絵」の中からも２曲入っているが、「セレナーデ」（現時点では未ＣＤ化）からは選ばれていないのは「アコースティックギターを主体とした岡林」をメーカーが打ち出したかったからなのだろう。

ＵＲＣ時代の唄が中川イサト氏の伴奏で、ムーンライダースやダウンタウンブギウギバンドによってロックビートの曲がそれぞれまた別の表情を見せている事は、岡林の唄そのものに強い生命力が備わっている事の証明であると言えないだろうか。
２枚組「岡林信康」のＣＤ化が無い現在、その一部と素の岡林が表現したかったものをかいま見る事ができるのがこのベストなのだ。

　岡林信康という人に「ベスト」が似合うか否かは別に論ずるとして、おそらく彼自身が選んだ中に「山野ブルース」も入っていなければ、「友よ」も入っていない。
　傍から見れば、これらの曲が、「ＢＥＳＴ」から外れる理由を探すのが大変であるが、彼にとっては、これらは、もう過去のものなのかもしれない。
　こういう戦局をするところがさすがだと思うのですね。
　ちょっと、物足りないと感じる方もいるかもしれませんが、発売に値しないと判断した曲を「ボーナストラック」と称しておまけにつけたり、本人が生存中には、発表しなかった曲を死後、「新曲」として売り出すことを考えれば、岡林には一本筋が通ってると思います。
