ミルトン ナシメント他、ベネズエラ、ウルグアイ、プエルトリコなど、中南米各国から多数のゲスト ヴォーカリストを迎えて制作された、ジョン アンダーソンのラテン音楽アルバム。とは言うものの、彼がサウンドに合わせてヴォーカル スタイルを変化させるタイプのシンガーでないことは、過去の活動によっても明らかだ。したがって、ディープなワールドミュージックを期待する向きには、「シリアスな作品ではない」といった印象を与えるかもしれない。一方で、昔からのイエス ファンに強くアピールできる要素も少なめであり、綜合的に見て、やや不利な作品といえる。個人的には、あがた森魚あたりを彷彿とさせる、内面的なコスモポリタニズムや異国情緒がなぜか心地よく、なかなか楽しめた。ジョンの曲を他のシンガーが歌っているのを聴くと、彼が優れたメロディー メーカーであることが逆に浮き彫りになるようで、面白い。

ジョン・アンダーソンが描くラテンの世界はとにかく明るく空に突き抜ける感覚をもたらしてくれる。
夏に聞くには持って来い、重い鉛の空の冬に聞くにも持って来い、クリアーなヴォーカルがもたらす透明感が心にしみる。
これこそヴォーカルのマジック、ぜひきいてみてください。
