『ON THE CITY SHORE』は、この初のセルフプロデュースも成功を収めた傑作アルバムである。説明するまでもなかろう…。同年（1983年）のANRIの『Bi・Ki・Ni』、『Timely!!』も角松敏生のメロディーメーカー、アレンジのセンスに満ち溢れている。よく聴くと角松のバックコーラスも他のコーラス陣に混じって微かに聴こえる。この『ON THE CITY SHORE』と聴き比べると時代背景が分かり、タイムトリップした気分に浸れる。夏にふさわしすぎるアルバムである。この翌年、1984年のANRIの『COOOL』も角松作品の宝庫！。

また、余談ではあるがこの時期に日本では珍しい12インチシングル『DO YOU WANNA DANCE』（アナログ盤）は、CD化されていないが最高であった。Amazonさんでオーディオテクニカのレコードプレーヤーを半信半疑で買ってみた（評価星5個であったので…）。そして、中古レコードの角松作品（CD未発表作品）を買い求め、聴いてみたところ重複するが感動した！。オマケの『FLY BY DAY』（1982年、ANRIの『HEAVEN BEACH』に収録）も、何故CD化しなかったのかというくらい素晴らしかった！。

角松氏の初期のアルバムでかなり「山下達郎」的な一枚。レコード版では歌詞カードの写真にサーフボードを抱えたサーファー気取りの角松氏の姿が…。
(20年前は若かったのね）-なんていうのは横道。
サウンド的にはかなり完成されたものだと思います。おかずの多いアレンジや今の「角松サウンド」の根底を流れるスピリッツがビシビシ伝わります。

かなり古いアルバムだけど、何故か初夏のこの時期には引っ張り出して聞きたくなる一枚でした。「TAKE ME TO ~」はライブでもおなじみの曲。

１９８３年の３rdアルバム、ズバリ捨て曲なし。夏のドライブのBGMには最適！この成功もあって同年に杏里の『Bi・Ki・Ni』と『Timely!!』の何と２枚を手がけており、後者は全面プロデュースで大成功を収めたアルバム。この２枚LPのクレジットを見ると作詞、作曲、編曲はもちろんのこと、ギターとコーラスでも参加している。
