文句なしの最高傑作だと思います。達郎がBIG NAMEに上り詰めるのは、「FOR YOU」以降だけど、作品のクオリティーのピークへはもっと以前に達していた。そしてその若き山下達郎の集大成がこの「COME ALONG U」。
８０年代、いけてる夏のイメージって、「常夏のカリフォーニア、サーフィン」（←まったく幻想）だったんだけど、本作はその文脈どおりに制作されています。
アルバムを一枚聞き通すときの心地よさは天下一品。
８５年の夏休み、地元で公園の入場係のアルバイトをしていたが、そのときラジカセで延々流していたのを覚えています。
達郎の楽曲がなんというかどれも開放的で色っぽく、小林克也のDJが異国情緒を醸し出して、このアルバムを聴くと「夏は永遠に終わらないのではないか」と思ったものです。
須藤薫の「Summer holiday」と同じくこの２０年間、僕の夏の定番です。

昔LPレコードで持っていたこのアルバム･･･もう一度聞きたくてこのCDを
買いましたが、達郎さんの澄んだ高い声は夏のイメージそのもの。そして、
今聞いてもなんて新鮮！過ぎ去った青春の、若かりし夏の思い出がぐっと
込み上げてきちゃう私のような古い人間は元より、あの頃を知らない人達が

聞いても絶対満足できる、やっぱりおススメの超定番ディスクです☆

和製ファンクＡＯＲをやらせたらぶっちぎりでトップな存在。
その黒人音楽の翻訳精度ははんぱではない。精密なものを感じる。
完全主義者＝ドナルドフェイゲンもそう＝ぶりが濃密に出ている。

サウンドに対するこだわりも深いがコンポーザーとしても才能が突出している希有な存在。カドマツトシキとともにかなりスタイリッシュなこだわりを持つ実力派。音楽に殉教してるんですかねふたりとも。
