このアルバムは地球と宇宙についてヴァンゲリスが表現した音楽です。
「反射率 0.39」というのは、地球が太陽光を反射する割合です。
だから、地球は青く見え、過剰な温度上昇を逃れているそうです。
　私が最初に聴いたのは、レコードの時代でした。
大きなアルバムに、CDと同じコップに光線が当たっている絵でした。

当時、宇宙に大変興味を持っていた中学生の私は、日本の音楽にない
透明感を感じました。シンセサイザーが多用されていない時代なので、
この作品との比較はしにくいのですが、その後の、富田勲や姫神などの
源流となるものと思います。
　その後も、彼は映画のサントラで活躍し続けていましたが、

2002年のワールドカップのアンセムに出てきたときは驚きました。
良いものは、時代を超えて、認められていく。と感じました。

大昔、NHKFMで夜にやっていた安倍静江朗読のSFドラマの特番で使われていた曲がこれ。反射率0.39。この怪しげなタイトルは、地球の事をあらわしている。SFチックな題のとおり、曲もSFそのもの。COSMOSという科学番組でもこのアルバムの曲が使用されていました。必聴のアルバム。

ギリシャ出身のキーボーディスト、ヴァンゲリスの77年発表のアルバムで、全ての楽器をヴァンゲリス自身が演奏しています。タイトルにつく0.39なる数字は地球が太陽光を反射する割合です。そんなタイトルや、コップの中で揺れる水に光が当たったジャケット、また6がＴＶの科学番組ＣＯＳＭＯＳで使用されたことからも分かる通り、ＳＦチックでイマジネーションあふれるサウンドになっています。サウンド的にはクリスタルなkeyが印象的ですが、決して無機質ではなく、暖かみを感じさせる音になっているのが特徴でしょうか。
「天国と地獄」同様、コンセプトアルバム的な作りになっているのですが、全９曲収録されていて軽快感があること、日本人好みの美しいメロディの6が収録されていること等から、「天国と地獄」以上にヴァンゲリス入門に適しているかもわかりません。
