彼女のファーストアルバム｢扉の冬｣の演奏では、キーボードを松任谷正隆さんが担当していたが、このアルバムでは佐藤博さん。

ジャズの素養のある佐藤博さんが加入したあたりから、細野晴臣さんのサウンド作りが、フュージョンっぽい香りが加わったというか、ファンクっぽくなったというか、大人っぽくなったというか、ともかく一皮剥けたことは間違いない。

元来、幅広い種類の音楽を聴き込んでいた細野さんが、ずっと暖めていたアイデアを爆発させていくきっかけが佐藤さんの加入でしょうね。フラッパーやトロピカル・ダンディーの凝ったアレンジは佐藤博さん抜きでは考えられません。

｢扉の冬｣と聴き比べてみて、キャラメル・ママからティンパン・アレーへのサウンドの変化・進化を楽しんで欲しいです。

なお、キャラメル・ママの名前は、東大安田講堂に立て籠もる全学連のヘルメット姿の学生たちに母親たちがキャラメルを差し入れして、物議をかもしたことが由来です。機動隊と対峙して世間を揺るがす大騒ぎを起こして起こしている過激派学生たちにキャラメルを差し入れるとは、母親たちはどんな感覚なのか、と当時のマスコミは一斉に叩いたというわけです。
その時代に生きていた人たちでないと分からない皮肉っぽい単語をバンド名に採用した細野さん。私も、そんな時代に青春を過ごしました。

十代の頃「ライトゥンアップ」で虜になり、遡って聴いたのがこのアルバムです。
メンバーもすごいし、現在のポップス界のアーティストにはありえない「成熟」を感じます。
細野さんのトロピカル色いっぱいの「ラムがお好き」が好きです。

個人的には吉田美奈子作品の中で一番好きな
アルバム。特にケッペキにいさんと、夢で逢えたらの
